It’s hard to believe, but it’s estimated that 99% of people currently trying to build a business online and make money from the Internet are FAILING miserably (and will continue to do so).

In fact, I’d say that the vast majority of them are still fighting to try and earn their first $1, even after many months or even years of struggling.

So why is it, then, that some people succeed and some people fail?

What separates the ones who “make it” from the ones who don’t?

Let’s just face a couple of facts:

a) Internet and information marketing IS simple. It’s not ‘easy’, but it is fundamentally ‘simple’.

b) Successful info product marketers aren’t super-heroes and they haven’t got magical powers.

c) ANYONE can be successful online, if they do the right things, in the right way.

Over the past 5 years, I have identified 9 simple habits, attributes and characteristics of profitable online marketers which help lead them to positive results.

They aren’t blisteringly difficult to understand or master, so if you can work hard on integrating these 9 things into your life, your mindset and your business, then YOU can achieve massive results too.

If you aren’t getting the kind of success or income that you’re looking for from your online business, then I would bet that one (or more) of these factors are contributing.

Here they are:

1) Find A Proven Plan Or System

You do NOT need to be a marketing genius, full of original ideas and crazy schemes to make money online. There is absolutely NO point in re-inventing the wheel or making things difficult for yourself.

The fastest and easiest way to succeed with anything in life is to watch what other people do and then simply copy them, in your own way.

Every profitable marketer is basically doing the same thing:

Create an offer —> Drive Traffic —> Deliver Value —> Continue Selling

The WAY that they do it may vary slightly, as will the things they are selling, because there are a LOT of ways to do this stuff.

Rather than confusing you, you need to let it inspire you. There are a ton of different systems that allow you to achieve the same end goal.

You need to choose a marketer that you like. Someone who you can relate to and whose style and content you like. Someone you aspire to be like, I guess.

Then you closely study and analyse what they are doing. Read their e-mails, look at their sales pages, examine the structure of their offers and their products, investigate their sales processes.

Focus on precisely WHAT they are doing to sell the things they sell. Then follow up and duplicate their system in your own business.

Here’s the key lesson:

If you do WHAT they do, and you do it the WAY that they do it… it WILL work for you too. It’s not magic, it’s just science.

2) Take Solid & Consistent Action

I’ve lost count of the number of people who have approached me at live seminars or at the end of my webinars and said: “Help, I just can’t make this online marketing thing work for me!”

When I ask, “What have you tried?”

They can’t REALLY tell me… because they have spent SO long jumping from ship-to-ship and system-to-system that, in truth, they haven’t really taken sold and consistent action on any one thing.

There are a ton of marketers who understand WHAT they should be doing, but they spend so long pondering the small, meaningless things or working on the time consuming, difficult and complicated challenges, that they aren’t doing the simple tasks which gets results.

The 80/20 rule REALLY applies to online business.

80% of your money will be made by just 20% of your business activities.

Guess what? The struggling newbies and long-term newbies spend their lives working in the 80% of the activities which makes them (at the VERY most) 20% of the money (and quite often, makes NO money at all).

If you’re too busy working on more than one project at once OR you’re jumping from one thing to the next OR you’re over-complicating the systems, technologies and marketing processes, then it’s going to slow you down… to a halt!

So, it’s essential that you work on ONE thing, do it until it’s done and then move onto the next thing. Get things so that they are good enough, not perfect and plough your business forward.

3) Fail Forward Fast

EVERYBODY fails at some point.

Almost every successful marketer has had numerous failed product launches, sales funnels which didn’t convert, webinars where the technology blew up, videos which nobody watched… and every other problem that you can imagine.

Any marketer who claims they haven’t ever made mistakes (possibly more mistakes than successes!) is flat-out lying to you.

The path to victory, in any area of life and business, is to spot your mistakes and LEARN from them, so that you’re less likely to make those mistakes the next time.

So many marketers are so terrified of failure that it paralyses them and stops them from taking any action at all.

It’s important that you always just take the plunge into all of your business activities and try your best. When you succeed, great. When you fail, well you’re still moving forward.

If you TRY something, you have a chance of succeeding. If you’re too frightened that something might go wrong, then you have no chance of succeeding.

Surely a 1% chance of “making it”, is better than a 0% chance? Marketing is a creative, fun process – and doesn’t always go right, the first time around.

The key is to FAIL FORWARD… FAST!

4) Lead With VALUE First

Nothing scares away money faster than when you chase after it!

Most marketers are trying to build their business online by focussing on the MONEY. They are constantly looking for ways to make money online by selling, selling, selling… but that’s just making life difficult.

People love to BUY things, but they hate to be sold to. The best way to get started is to make sure that you’re constantly working hard to deliver maximum value to your subscribers and prospects to help them achieve their goals and solve their problems.

If you give people free training, content and lots of value, they will WANT to re-pay you by buying your products and services.

It’s SERIOUSLY powerful. If you lead forward with value, you’ll be amazed how people start ASKING you if you have products to sell them or coaching programs.

There’s a few ways that you can work to deliver value to your marketplace:

– Blog: Post weekly with tutorials, strategy and training

– YouTube: Record videos teaching great content and information

– Social Media: Post tips and tricks on Facebook, Twitter, Periscope, etc

– Your List: E-mail your subscribers with videos and training

Info marketers are always using CONTENT-DRIVEN marketing to spread their teaching across their marketplace, expanding their authority, building reciprocity and delivering massive value.

Once someone buys your product, the value has to continue. You should always make sure that ALL of your products are value-packed, to make sure that you have nothing but happy customers. A delighted customer will always spread the word and tell MORE people about you and your business.

I try to make sure that, for every dollar that somebody gives me, they feel as though they have had at least $10 in value, in return.

5) Build A Large, Responsive List

You’ve probably heard that “the money is in the list” and, fundamentally… it’s TRUE! If I asked you to find a successful info product marketer who doesn’t have a mailing list, then I think you’ll struggle!

Having a subscriber list is the fastest and easiest way to generate super-targeted traffic, influence it and direct it towards any website or offer that you want to – and generate cash on-demand.

All you have to do is write an e-mail, send it to your list and the sales just start rolling in. Without building a list it’s VERY difficult to build a profitable business online AND you’d be leaving a lot of cash on the table.

I believe that building a list of customers and subscribers is one of the first things that you should do, when starting your business. The moment you start getting your first subscribers is the moment that you can start making money, by sending them e-mails.

6) Engineer Profitable, Deep Sales Funnels

Once you have brought a new customer into your business, you should keep selling to them, until they are ready to stop buying! It’s important that you architect and build deep sales funnels which continue your customers journey through your business, by making them new offers.

Each time someone buys a product from you, you should offer them the next logical step of the process for them. When they buy “A”, sell them “B”, then “C” and so on. Each time they buy a product from you, it solves the next part of their problem or helps to enhance their life further, giving them new skills and abilities.

You’ll find it difficult to build a BIG scale business if you only have a handful of products, scattered across multiple markets and niches. Instead, you need to try and “work your market deep”, by creating as many products in your niche as you can, so that you can appeal and reach out to as many customers as you can.

A well-designed and high-converting sales funnel can easily create 10x the profits of the initial purchase.

Let’s imagine that you create a $27 product and it converts at 10%. That means that sending 1000 visitors to the sales page, would generate 100 sales ($270o).

If you had a $47, $97 and $297 upsell in place, then your total potential customer value would become $27 + $47 + $97 + $297 = $368!

Even if only a small percentage of your initial customers buy each upsell, your total income across the funnel increases dramatically – and that means way more profits for you.

So whenever you are building out a new product, try hard to find additional, great products, which you can bolt onto the end to deliver further value to your customers and make more money.

7) Split-Test, Track & Tweak

It’s VERY unlikely that the various different pages and other elements of your marketing campaigns will be perfect the first time around (remember that “failure” thing?) so it’s really important that you are constantly working hard to test, tweak and trial different ideas.

Maybe just re-arranging some words in a headline or changing the colour of a button could have a tremendous impact on the conversion rate (and profits!) of your business.

Sometimes you’ll find that the results that you are getting from your sales processes just aren’t as strong as you’d like them to be OR they could be stronger. So make sure that you’re constantly working hard to test all of the different elements and variations.

Just ten minutes of work could easily double or treble the conversion of your squeeze page or sales page and have a huge result throughout your business.

8) Create Multiple Streams Of Income

Successful marketers know that they have to build multiple streams of income, growing and scaling their business with a “rinse and repeat” approach. Why should you create a single product, when you could create 5? Or 10? Or 100?

Well, you get the idea! The more different products and niches you can grow your business into, the more money you stand to make, provided that you make sure that you are able to keep “all of the balls in the air at the same time”.

Once you have built and perfected one particular stream of income, such as a product and it’s working away (hands-free), creating passive income, you can duplicate it with another product or funnel. Just rinse and repeat each profitable campaign in your business and watch your income soar.

9) Get A Coach & Mentor

Almost every successful info product marketer that I know, has a mentor or a coach, helping them to succeed and drive their business forward. In fact, almost every successful person in EVERY area of life has a mentor, whether it’s sports, politics, business or anything else!

Having a mentor helps you to take all of the individual pieces of your online business model and put them together in the right way to get MAXIMUM results. It’s really difficult to buy separate training programs on all of the different aspects of an online business and make them “fit” and work together, so having a mentor really helps.

Your coach will help you by teaching you each and every single part of your online business systems and infrastructure, and then show you how to put everything together to built an unstoppable internet marketing machine.

A good mentor will teach you WHAT to do, WHY it works and show you HOW to do it, step-by-step so that there is no guesswork. Your coach will usually have “been there and done that”, so you can learn from as many of their mistakes as possible.

Imagine being able to follow a simple tutorial, where everything is fully explained and then, after you have done it, you can show it to your mentor or coach, for full, frank and candid feedback? Then you can act on their advice and improve it before you set it live on the Internet.

Pretty cool, right? Having a mentor means having someone experienced “in your corner” and ready to help you achieve all of the other 8 habits I’ve just talked about.

And there you have it.

The 9 simple habits which set the successful info product marketers apart from the crowd.

Right now, you have a choice. Genuinely.
